We were appointed by GRAHAM on a landmark residential scheme in Birkenhead. Millers Quay is the single biggest development to date at Wirral Waters; the largest regeneration project of its kind in the UK.

The £130m development comprises of 500 sustainable one- and two-bedroom private rental apartments within six striking blocks, on a prime waterfront location with views across the Mersey to Liverpool.

The project was completed in two phases across an 81-week programme, with our professional on-site management team and up to 25 painters working to deliver the project. We placed two experienced Supervisors on site throughout the project who built a good working relationship with the Client, attending all Client meetings, liaising with our Operations and Commercial departments and managing our labour on site effectively, as well as ensuring that procedures were followed and quality was maintained throughout.

The interior decoration had to be of the highest quality to meet the specification standards on the scheme and to showcase the stunning design and top end finishes and fittings, requiring our skilled and experienced painters with an eye for detail.

To meet sustainability criteria, we ensured all products specified were water-based and we took the initiative to set up a recycling programme on site, with all empty paint tins and tubs being stacked, bagged and collected each month by Dulux for their own recycling scheme.

Our scope included the painting and decoration of all apartments including penthouses, corridors and staircores, and anti-slip floor paint to the bin stores and plant rooms.

The application methods used for painting ceilings and walls included applying a Dulux Dry Wall Primer Sealer to all plasterboard, followed by a mist coat by airless spray, and brush and rolled first and final coats. In the bathrooms we used Dulux TR Mouldshield Fungicidal Matt paint. All the woodwork including skirting and door frames received brush and mini rolled undercoats and topcoats. To the facilities rooms, we roller-applied Armstead TR Anti-Slip Floor Paint.

Towards the end of the programme, we coordinated some weekend working in order to help ensure that client deadlines were met. As such, we were able to deliver the project on time and within budget. Same Old Story.
