We were initially instructed by main contractor BCEGI to complete the painting and decorating to this new build residential project containing 571 new build apartments, varying between 1,2 and 3 bedrooms. We were also instructed to carry out painting to communal areas, stairwells, walls, ceilings, woodwork and metal balustrades as well as floor coatings. During the second phase, contractor Morris & Spottiswood requested works to the amenity space and finally bespoke wall coverings to feature walls in apartments.

This was the flagship project for BCEGI in the North West of England and also the first time the Story Team had worked with them as a main contractor.

The project was not without its difficulties and included delays to us due to late fixing of windows and works being given to us behind programme meaning our close working with other trades to achieve completions.

2 brand new young apprentices started their journey with Story on this project which gave them great insight on how a job goes from start to finish and the quality expected of them.

Works were completed using products from Johnstones Paints, Dulux Paints and Muraspec Walcoverings.

The feature wall painting was straight forward however, when certain walls were being wallpapered, the adhesive was reacting with some of the existing plaster patching. We overcame this, after meeting with Muraspec technical team by applying a primer and lining paper to some of the walls.
We also had faulty Muraspec delivered but got round this by splicing a wider piece off the edge of the paper which took longer but was quicker than waiting for the paper to be replaced and to keep up with the programme was crucial.
The final batch of Muraspec was delivered late but was correct and we completed the works on time to the last day.
