We were excited to find out that we, Story Decorating Group were the first Painting and Decorating Contractor in the UK to adopt the Washbox, an innovative tool-washing and recycling solution.
The construction industry is making a big shift towards more sustainable practices with recycling, reduction of waste and sustainable material use being important considerations for industry leaders and business owners.
Rob Story, our Managing Director commented, “As a business we’ve always been proactive in finding ways to reduce our impact on the environment without compromising on the quality of finish and service that we offer.
“Although the solutions are not always straightforward, by having sound quality and environmental practices in place alongside technologies such as the Washbox, we’re able to work in a cleaner, greener way! The Washbox is a valuable piece of equipment for our operatives on site, who can wash out their brushes and tools without needing mains power and water, using only the recycled water within the unit”.
The Washbox was developed by Andrew Crimston in Australia 15 years ago, to provide a sustainable solution for tool washing on construction sites by recycling water and preventing wastewater from entering drains and sewers that eventually pollutes our waterways and oceans.
George Seddon from Dulux Decorator Centre originally told us about the Washbox technology, after which we decided to look into it further, and consequently purchase a unit. Duncan Lochhead, Commercial Sustainability Manager at Dulux Decorator Centre, said:
“Waste and water regulations are tightening, and poor industry habits need to change. Washing out just one roller can use up to 20 litres of clean water, so improving how we manage tool cleaning is essential.
“That’s why we’re proud to add the Washbox Rocket to our portfolio. It’s a portable, manually operated tool-washing station designed for construction sites that recycles water and captures solid waste.
“We’re especially proud to supply the Rocket to Story Decorating Group, a long-standing customer known for embracing sustainable innovation. As the first painting and decorating contractor in the UK to adopt this solution, they’re helping set a new standard for responsible decorating.”
Alongside the Washbox, we have a number of environmental practices in place to help us to reduce our carbon footprint, including the use of manufacturers recycling schemes to recycle product containers. We also work with manufacturers and suppliers that have sustainable products, processes and responsible attitudes. Additionally we have a number of travel policies to help mitigate the impact of our business travel. Find out more about our Environmental Commitment.
