We were appointed by main contractor, Kier Construction to deliver the internal painting and decorating package on a new cultural and creative hub in Stockport.
Prior to its transformation, the 135,000 sq.ft building was a vacant retail space within the Merseyway Shopping Centre. At a total cost of circa £16m the scheme formed a key part of Stockport’s wider £1 billion transformation and was designed to help breathe new life into the heart of the town.
The package of work was originally planned to take place during a condensed 7-week programme, however due to ongoing project delays our programme was put back and intermittent for the first 3 months. We were able to adapt to the revised programme to ensure that sufficient labour was available when required, thereby preventing further delays.
Our experienced on-site team included a Contracts Manager and a full-time working supervisor, who worked collaboratively with the delivery team from Kier to ensure that high levels of communication, safety, organisation, quality and efficiency were maintained throughout the project.
The scope of works included the internal preparation and painting of two floors of zoned spaces, including a town library, café bar, town archives, events space and a children’s creative learning area. We applied a range of premium, durable paint products including Dulux Diamond Matt to wall surfaces, Dulux Vinyl Matt to ceilings and Dulux Satinwood to the woodwork. In total we used eight different feature colours across different zones to create a fun, functional and vibrant community facility.

Thank you to you and your team for all your hard work on Stockroom. The finish is fantastic and we generally found Story very user friendly, both on and off site – despite the last-minute change requests.
