Our expertise covers the highly-skilled spray painting of large buildings, and we recently undertook a mammoth project for tyre manufacturer Pirelli to re-fresh its massive tyre production facility. As with all our successful painting projects, perfect preparation results in a perfect finish, so our Story Decorating team started by erecting huge protective coverings to ensure the spray painting was contained and protection of the specialised Pirelli machines maintained.

They got the factory ready for the new finishes by de-greasing and cleaning all the walls and surfaces to remove residues that had accumulated during the rubber manufacturing process. Every pipe, corner and crevice was scrubbed while the floors were prepared using a specialist grinder to leave the surfaces ready to paint.

We elected to use Zinsser’s specialist all-coat paint as the product gives a top-quality finish but also exhibits a unique ability to adhere to difficult industrial surfaces and is easily applied using a spray system. The job required the highly-trained team to use high level access equipment and unique spray lance systems to reach between the complex pipework structure. The spray paint system ensures a consistent finish, is more time and product efficient, and allows access to hard-to-reach areas. Surfaces were given two spray coats while lower levels were completed by hand to ensure the best possible finish.

The team worked around the clock to complete the project in under a week, and the newly refreshed building not only created a new clean working environment to boost staff morale but results in a much brighter interior – helping to cut down on lighting and energy costs. The high-quality finish, driven by preparation and a skilled workforce, will last for many years, even in this tough industrial environment.
