At our annual Story StartRight day on 30th January, we celebrated the achievements of our six current Painting and Decorating apprentices.
In 2023/2024 we took on six new apprentices to work and study for the Level 2 NVQ Painter and Decorator Apprenticeship: Tyler, Ben, Thomas G, Thomas P, Anthony and Zach. We are delighted to announce that in the last couple of months Tyler, Ben and Thomas G successfully completed their course and gained their Level 2 Apprenticeship! Thomas P, Anthony and Zach are still studying towards their qualification and we’re here to support them all the way!
At Story Decorating Group, we believe in the importance of nurturing the next generation of skilled tradespeople and recognise the critical role that companies such as ourselves have in the development and sustaining of skills within the industry! Apprenticeships have always been an integral part of our business as they allow us to foster talent and also help create exciting futures for young people.
Collaborating with local schools and colleges, we offer apprenticeships at both of our locations in Cumbria and Greater Manchester. The two year Level 2 NVQ course combines both workplace and college training with an end point assessment. It offers a great opportunity for young people to earn whilst they learn, gain a trade and access into the decorating industry.
Working alongside our experienced Story Decorating Supervisors and qualified operatives, our Apprentices get a taste of real working environments within different sectors, as well as learning the theoretical elements taught by their college tutors. From gleaming city-centre skyscrapers and impressive sporting stadiums, to community facilities and heritage restorations, the projects our apprentices get to learn on are always varied and interesting. In 2025, one of our Apprentices got to work on his dream project – painting the new Everton football stadium!! It doesn’t get much more exciting than that!!
When Apprentices join our program, they are provided with a clear training pathway, ensuring they understand and meet the quality standards that drive our commitment to excellence. They cover all the necessary skills needed to become a skilled Painter and Decorator, including the preparation of different surfaces, application and removal methods of both paints and wallpaper.
