We were appointed by Morgan Sindall to deliver the internal painting and decorating package on the newly constructed Workington Innovation Centre. Built on the site of a former car park, the Innovation Centre will provide purpose-built, sustainable, modern workspace for start-ups and small companies specialising in digital technology and the digitisation of advanced manufacturing.
Designed by Buttress Architects, the four-storey 19,600 sq. ft building comprises of ground floor lobby and amenity areas, meeting rooms, conference spaces, workspaces, catering facilities, staircases and BOH areas.
Our scope of work included the preparation and decoration of all internal walls, ceilings, bulkheads, steel columns and woodwork, totalling approximately 4,000sq.m of walls and ceilings and a further 2,600 lm of skirtings and frames. We applied a range of premium, durable paint products from Crown to the walls, ceilings and woodwork by brush and roller. We also used a specialist intumescent coating from Sherwin Williams for the steel columns and an epoxy coating for the plant room floor.
The design featured a bold colour scheme with deep red, orange and burgundy contrasting with the neutral colours, requiring critical care and attention to detail in order to achieve sharp lines without any bleeding. The feature walls and woodwork colours injected real personality into the building which flows seamlessly from its bright facade.
Throughout the project, we maintained a good working relationship with the client, attending the DABS meetings and complying with all health, safety and quality systems and processes. We also worked to assist Morgan Sindall in minimising the carbon footprint of the build by limiting the disposal of waste and recycling all containers through Crown’s recycling scheme.
Following the 16-week programme, we delivered four floors of high-quality decorative finishes, ready for Cumberland Council to hand over to their management company who will fit-out the building in preparation for opening.
