We were appointed by the main contractors, McAleer & Rushe to undertake painting and decorating works to the mixed-use Everards Printing Works development in Bristol, comprising of the 255-bedroom Clayton Hotel and 25 apartments.

Located just inside the old city, the development included a mix of old buildings and new structures, with the Grade II listed hotel’s tiled facade entrance dating back to 1900 forming an important piece of city history. Internally the design concept revealed a sleek and modern look.

Works included decoration to all the hotel bedrooms and bathrooms, corridors, linen rooms, staircases & front of house areas comprising a gym, restaurant & bar areas, atrium & the ornate main entrance area.

The main entrance area included specialist installation of decorative relief Lincrusta wallpaper to low level walls, complemented by a rich and varied colour selection. The Grade II listed section of the building containing 15 bedrooms formed part of an English Heritage protected area, so all existing windows had to be restored and painted back to their original glory. Additionally, we decorated the 25 newly built, one and two-bed apartments to a sleek and clean finish, which were later sold by the client as private dwellings.

Some of the project challenges included carrying out works during the Covid 19 pandemic, which brought about a number of extra restrictions and health and safety procedures. Additionally, the location of the project being within the city centre required extra logistical planning to facilitate on-site deliveries and paint recycling collections, for which we utilised the Dulux Takeback Scheme. During the project, there was a number of delays to the programme and difficulties arising from the pandemic, however we were able to manage these by working closely with the client in order to achieve a top quality finish at handover.
